ab medica spa was founded in 1984 by Aldo Cerruti, owner and CEO. Over time technologically advanced products in the various medical sectors were introduced throughout Italy. Twenty years of constant collaboration with some of the most prestigious companies worldwide have consolidated the image of the company on national and international scale, bringing it to a level of uniqueness in Italy.
Among ab medica’s most important innovations there is the marketing of Amplatzer PFO that allows you conduct the percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale without invasive surgery, with enormous benefits for patients, and the Robotic Surgery of the "Da Vinci" system.
As for the robot "Da Vinci", the surgery of the Hospital of Grosseto is now a worldwide point of reference for its use in General Surgery. In Grosseto since 2004, thanks to ab medica and to Prof. Giulianotti, is the first Educational Center for Experimental Robotic Surgery in Europe.
From 2006 the European Oncology Institute, for the will of the ex Minister Veronesi, is also using a robot "Da Vinci" mainly for Urology. In the United States the main application of Surgical Robotics is the Radical Prostatectomy. Today one out of three procedures is performed with a robot and there are nearly 500 active "Da Vinci" systems (350 in 2005). In Italy there are 27 robots at present.
For Stereotactic Radiosurgery ab medica has introduced the first "Cyberknife" (cybernetic knife) in Europe, the most advanced equipment in the world in the treatment of certain tumoral both intra-cranial and extra-cranial diseases. In Italy there are two systems currently in Vicenza and Milan and other two are being installed in Messina and Bari.
ab medica is the point of reference with regard to the installation and the start-up of this device.
In the field of electrophysiology ab medica introduced the first Niobe System II for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmia at the San Raffaele Hospital. The HSR series boasts the best in the world in this field with about 5,000 cases a year and atrial fibrillation affects 600,000 people in Italy.
